California Humanities: Second Round of Relief Grants–Application is Now Open!

Author: California Humanities

We are pleased to launch a second round of the California Humanities Relief Grants to provide much-needed funds to the public humanities sector across California.

In recognition that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a serious impact on the public humanities field across the state, California Humanities is directing funds from the federal American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, through the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), to meet the emergency needs of humanities-focused organizations in order to help sustain and grow the public humanities field in California.

In keeping with California Humanities’ mission, California Humanities Relief and Recovery Grants aim to provide support to public humanities-focused organizations that have experienced critical challenges as a direct result of COVID-19, including a decrease or loss of revenue, programming opportunities, paid staff, or venues.

RELIEF GRANTS: GENERAL SUPPORT FOR ORGANIZATIONS
General operating support grants between $5,000 and $20,000 will provide public humanities-focused organizations, based and operating in California, with unrestricted funds that can be used for urgent needs resulting from COVID-19 in order to support the continued implementation of public humanities programming.

Eligible organizations must demonstrate a track record for supporting rich and engaging public humanities work that is accessible to the people of California.  Please see the Relief Guidelines and FAQ documents for further details. If you applied during Round 1 and did NOT receive an award, you may apply again.

Watch the Relief and Recovery grants webinar recording to learn more about the intent of the program, eligibility requirements, and how to apply. Please note that the application window for Recovery Grants has closed.

Relief Grants (Round 2) applications accepted from August 25 to September 15, 5 pm PST; decision by October 15.
