ORSP invites proposals to a limited submission opportunity (wherein the sponsor limits the number of proposals that an institution may submit to a funding opportunity). Funding Opportunity: Pilot Program to Increase Research Capacity at HBCUs and Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs)
Overview DOD (or DOW) invites applications to increase the capacity of eligible institutions to achieve very high research activity status on the Carnegie Classification scale. The proposals must align with the research areas of interest to DOD and enhance the education of students in areas of STEM that align with DOD research interests.
Funding and Duration Up to $2,000,000 per year for up to five years
Eligibility
The principal investigator on record will be the vice provost of academic resources; however, a senior/key person should be named to oversee daily project activities. Key personnel must be U.S. citizens.
Required Materials for ORSP Submission
Any pages over the limit will not be reviewed
- One-page project summary describing (1) research capabilities and relevance to research areas of interest to DOD; (2) assessment of progress toward achieving very high research activity status; (3) sustainability of an increased level of research activity after the grant ends; and (4) encouragement of students to pursue degrees in STEM fields, including in research-related education
- Two-page CV for each applicant
Selection Criteria
- Scientific and technical merit of the proposed project
- Relevance of the proposed project to the DOD critical technology areas
- Potential of the proposed project to develop new research capabilities or enhance existing research capabilities
- Ability of the proposed research to contribute to elevating SFSU’s Carnegie Category status
- Potential of the project to enhance research and research-related education capabilities in STEM disciplines and increase the number of students engaged in STEM disciplines
- Qualifications of key personnel to achieve the objectives of the project
Deadlines
- Submit materials to ORSP and committee for review: February 27, 5pm PT
- ORSP and committee to choose one application to move forward: March 6
- Sponsor application deadline: April 10
