Welcome Back!

As we begin this semester, I wanted to reach out and welcome everyone back for the new academic year.  We are excited to see all the interesting and engaging projects ramping up around campus, and ORSP is here to help you find external support for them.  A few reminders, it is helpful to everyone if could submit a PI Checklist as soon as you identify a funding opportunity for which you like to submit a proposal including federal, state, local, or foundations.  Also, please remember to speak with our talented HR team prior to hiring students or staff on your current grants.   We need to make sure all prospective employees fill out the required paperwork including I-9 verification before they actually start work related to the grant.

If you would like to find external support for your work, we have two practical ways to help you get funding.  First, we offer access to Pivot, and with this powerful database, you can search funding opportunities related to your research interests using simple keywords (remember start broad and refine as you go).   You can also make an appointment with our gifted Grant Development Specialist, Jessica Mankus, and/or me.   We can assist in identifying funding opportunities, discussing your ideas (are they fundable, what is reasonable for the grant you wish to apply for, etc.), and even offer to read through drafts as you craft the best possible proposal.

Finally, I’m pleased to announce that our extremely hardworking and dedicated faculty submitted 318 proposals last fiscal year resulting in a large increase of external grant support in comparison to the previous year. The majority of grant funding coming into SFSU goes directly to tuition, stipends, and salaries of our students, faculty and staff, and ORSP is here specifically to help bring in more funds to support the Gator community so please do not hesitate to contact our office.   ORSP is excited to assist your research, scholarship, and creative activities at SF State.

Go Gators!
